    Shubman Gill-Hardik Interview

Shubman Gill, the outstanding batsman for India, made his fantastic century in the third T20I on Wednesday (February 1), which Team India won by an unprecedented margin.

On Wednesday, Shubman Gill helped India win the series 2-1 by scoring the greatest Twenty20 total by an Indian batsman in a 168-run triumph over New Zealand.

India won the third T20I in Ahmedabad and so recorded yet another series win in 2023. Gill, who was named “Player of the Match” following the game, said that he was pleased to get a massive knock while he spoke in the post-match.

India scored 234/4 thanks to Gill’s 126 not out off 63 balls, which included 12 fours and 7 sixes (20 overs). In retaliation, New Zealand scored its third-lowest T20 total of 66 in 12.1 overs.

Gill discussed his improved shot-making skills and newly acquired boundary-clearing abilities in an interview on BCCI TV following the game, and said, “A lot of the credit goes to my father. Ninety percent credit goes to him — the way he made me practice did help me a lot.”

“In the matches leading up to this game in Ahmedabad, I didn’t do well – did not match up to my expectations. So I was eager to perform.”

Gill revealed a morale-boosting conversation with skipper Pandya before the game, “When you told me to play my natural game it really helped because I did not have to do anything extra. These small things help a long way.”

“To be able to play how I play, I must be mentally clear. Whenever I hit a six, you told me to hold your shape the next ball. I was in that zone, but you told me to hold back and take on the other bowlers,” responded Gill.

“It feels good when you practice and it pays off. Happy to get the big ones for the team. Everybody has a different technique to hit sixes,” Gill said at the post-match presentation.

“Hardik bhai told me to bat the way I do, and that there is no need to do anything extra. When you are representing your country, I don’t think there’s any kind of fatigue, and I am happy to play all three formats.”

Captain Hardik Pandya stated that he usually makes judgments on the field based on his gut feeling.

“I have always played the game like this, trying to read the situation and what’s required at that moment, and not have pre-conceived ideas. A lot of time I back my guts,” said Pandya, who was named player of the series.

“I have got a very simple rule about my life and captaincy — if I go down, I go down on my decisions. When I played the IPL final, I felt the second innings were spicier. We want to normalize these pressure games, and hopefully, we can do better at bigger stages.”
