The transition phase in Indian cricket will begin with Hardik Pandya leading the T20 team and Suryakumar Yadav serving as his deputy for the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka after back-to-back disasters in the T20 World Cup.
Beginning on January 3, a three-match T20 series will be played between Sri Lanka and the Indian cricket team (Tuesday). The squad chosen for this series does not feature seasoned players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The first T20 game to be played in Mumbai will see Shubman Gill make his T20 international debut. Hardik can give Gill the task of opening in the absence of Rohit and KL Rahul.
Gill has participated in 15 ODIs and 13 Tests for India. In IPL 2022, Gill hit 483 runs for Gujarat Titans, helping the club win the title. He has participated in 74 IPL games and scored 1,900 runs.
