Head Coach of the Indian women’s team, Amol Muzumdar, didn’t have the ideal start to his campaign as his team suffered a second-consecutive loss at the hands of England women in this T20I series.
Harmanpreet Kaur and co. have now lost the T20I series and would be hoping to end the series on a high. The 3rd T20I will be played on 10th December 2023 without a break and the Indian women’s team needs to come out all guns blazing.
With just 80 runs on the board, Team India had their task cut out- take wickets or go home. And a few flip-ups like Renuka Singh giving away 8 extras in the first over or Deepti Sharma being brought into the attack quite late, bit India later.
In this article, we take a look at the top 3 talking points of the 2nd IND-W vs ENG-W T20I, which took place in Mumbai:
1. Jemimah Rodrigues’s lone battle
At a time when the Indian batters failed to get their bearings right, Jemimah Rodrigues waged a lone battle with the willow. She scored 30 runs in 33 deliveries and steadied the boat of India, which was sinking with the fall of wickets.
One of the best batters in the world in this format, Rodrigues played a mature knock and was the only performer for India. She scored 2 boundaries and had a strike-rate of 90.91 in the 2nd IND-W vs ENG-W T20I.
2. England women were right on the money with the ball
The England bowlers performed exceedingly well with the white-cherry and helped bring India down on their haunches. Charlotte Dean, Lauren Bell, Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn bagged 2 wickets each and were the top performers in the 1st innings.
The consistency displayed by them helped them build the narrative of the entire game, which essentially drifted towards England playing extremely well.
3. Deepti Sharma’s late dash
Deepti Sharma was brought into the attack by Harmanpreet Kaur when there was just 19 runs left on the board. This essentially backfired as it seemed like Sharma was the best bowler in the Indian team in this match in Mumbai.
She came in and instantly left an indelible impression in the game. The right-arm off-break bowler bagged 2 wickets and it injected a tad bit of confidence into the Indian team. She dismissed Amy Jones and Freya Kemp but in the end, it was just way too less on the board for India to defend.
