The 23-year allrounder from Australia, Cameron Green, who was just auctioned for the second-highest price in IPL history, claimed that he “didn’t do much” to earn the amount of money that was paid to him during the player auction. Mumbai Indians paid a record-breaking sum of Rs 17.5 crores to acquire him.
The Australian all-rounder then completed a remarkable week by taking his first-ever Test five-wicket haul against South Africa on the first day of the second Test in Melbourne.
Green will be making his IPL debut this year after never having played previously. Green has appeared in eight T20Is for Australia and has 139 runs at a strike rate of 173.75. Green also has five wickets to his name in 7 innings of bowling.
It doesn’t change who I am
Speaking after his finest Test bowling performance, Green acknowledged that, he didn’t feel like he had done enough in T20 cricket to justify the high price tag in the IPL.
“To be fair, I think I didn’t do much to kind of earn that,” Green said. “I just put my name into the auction, and it just happened. It doesn’t change who I am or how I think and all the confidence I have in my cricket. Hopefully, I didn’t change too much.”
Everyone gets around you
After the auction’s final bid was placed, Green admitted on Friday that he was shaking. But he had to rapidly shift his focus to the Monday-starting Test match. He thinks the event and his teammates were able to help him regain perspective.
“Definitely the players can bring you back down pretty quickly,” Green said. “It’s a good group that we’ve got at the moment. Everyone gets around you when they need to and can bring you back pretty quickly when they want to. I think everyone was focused on Boxing Day. It’s a fixture that you point out at the start of the year, and you look forward to so now that takes your focus 100%.”
