IPL 2023 is all set to get underway from March 31. Aiden Markram, an all-around player for South Africa, is eager to take on a new challenge with Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the IPL 2023, he will be the captain of the Orange Army.

When the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 begins next month, newly-appointed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Aiden Markram wants his players to show their characters in crucial times.

New Zealander Kane Williamson served as the Sunrisers’ captain the previous season. The team finished in an unimpressive eighth position with six wins and eight losses. Williamson was released by Sunrisers prior to this year’s auction, and Gujarat Titans immediately hired him. Markram will also lead the team for the upcoming season.

For the Orange Army, he participated in 14 games, scoring 381 runs at an average of 47.63, including three half-centuries. On April 2, in Hyderabad, the Sunrisers will play their inaugural game against the Rajasthan Royals.

Aiden Markram has great SA20 stint

The fact that Markram was appointed SRH captain wasn’t all that surprising. After recently led SRH’s sister team Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the inaugural SA20 title in Johannesburg, he was the front-runner for the captaincy hat.

The outstanding all-rounder, who scored 366 runs and took 11 wickets, also took home the Player of the Tournament trophy at the SA20.

As per the report of TimesofIndia.com, Markram spoke about his selection as Sunrisers captain, “I always look for characters who can handle high pressure in a tournament like the IPL.

Looking at the squad at the Sunrisers, we have a great bunch of players and there are players who have strong characters. Looking forward to those guys stepping up when it’s needed and showing their experience”.

Who will be the new SRH Vice-Captain?

When asked about his choice for his SRH deputy. Markram said, “I have played under Mayank (Agarwal) at Punjab Kings and me and him get on really well. If you see the amount of experience Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) has, it’s almost irreplaceable.

“To pick one right now is a difficult one but both would nail it certainly.” The 28-year-old also spoke heights about SA20, stating the tournament is going to make its place among the top franchise leagues in the world a few years down the line.

“I think it’s going to keep getting better. I have spoken to some of the overseas guys that were there. They absolutely loved the tournament. I think that’s a big statement in the right direction,” added Markram.

“Hoping in five years down the line, it’s up there with some of the best leagues in the world. Obviously, IPL is the best league in the world but we are all going to give out best towards the SA20 to help it get close to something like IPL,” he concluded.
