Former RCB head coach Daniel Vettori has been appointed as the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, replacing former West Indies captain Brian Lara, the franchise announced on Monday.

The decision to appoint Vettori comes after a disappointing season for Sunrisers Hyderabad, where they finished at the bottom of the standings, managing to secure only four wins out of fourteen games.

Brian Lara had taken over as the head coach in 2023, succeeding Tom Moody, and had previously served as the strategic advisor and batting coach for SRH.

On the other hand, Daniel Vettori brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role. He most recently served as the assistant coach for the Australia men’s team and was the head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2014 to 2018. Presently, he serves as the head coach for the Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.

During his tenure with RCB, the team reached the playoffs in 2015 and the final in 2016, showcasing his coaching acumen.

Vettori’s appointment as the head coach makes him the seventh person to take up the role for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last six seasons.

The team will be hoping that Vettori’s expertise and leadership will help them bounce back strongly in the upcoming seasons of the Indian Premier League.
