Mayank Agarwal filed a police complaint after allegedly consuming a ‘poisonous liquid’ on a Delhi-bound flight.
The incident unfolded just before takeoff, prompting Agarwal’s immediate hospitalization and raising concerns within the cricket community.
Mayank Agarwal had scored 51 and 17 in Karnataka’s recent match against Tripura, leading his team to a 29-run victory.
However, the joy was short-lived as he fell critically ill on the flight scheduled to depart for New Delhi.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) confirmed the incident, stating that Agarwal was taken to a local hospital after feeling uneasy and vomiting on the flight.
According to reports, Agarwal mistakenly consumed a liquid from a pouch, believing it to be water. Shortly after ingesting it, he experienced severe discomfort, prompting his decision to de-board the flight.
The substance, instead of being water, irritated and rendered Agarwal unable to speak. Quick action was taken, and he was promptly rushed to a local hospital in Agartala.
His manager, representing him, filed a formal complaint with the New Capital Complex Police Station, alleging potential foul play.
Mayank Agarwal’s Medical Emergency: Police Investigation
The police have acknowledged the complaint and are set to launch a thorough investigation into the matter.
The specific nature of the liquid and the circumstances surrounding its presence in the flight remain key points of inquiry.
SP West Tripura Kiran Kumar provided initial insights, stating, “Mayank Agarwal, an international cricket player. Now he is stable and his vitals are normal. But his manager has lodged a specific complaint under NCCPS to investigate the matter.”
Mayank Agarwal’s Medical Condition Update:
Agarwal’s medical condition, as reported by State Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, reveals that he is stable, with normal vitals. The cricketer experienced swelling and ulcers in his mouth, prompting concern and immediate medical attention.
ILS Hospital, where Agarwal is currently admitted, released a statement through its Manager of Business Development, Manoj Kumar Debnath. It noted that the cricketer is “clinically stable” and under constant monitoring, having been admitted for oral irritation and swelling on his lips.
Immediate Actions and Future Plans:
In response to the complaint, the police and health authorities are taking immediate action. The police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and Agarwal is expected to travel to Bengaluru for further treatment.
Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials, while confirming that Agarwal is not in immediate danger, remain in contact with doctors and state officials for updates on his condition. Agarwal will miss the next Ranji Trophy match against Railways in Surat.
