Former India cricketer Praveen Kumar and his son had a lucky escape when they survived a major car accident in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday night.

Reports indicate that Kumar’s Land Rover Defender was hit by a speeding truck while he was returning from the Pandav Nagar area. Despite the car being heavily damaged, both Praveen Kumar and his son managed to escape without serious injuries.

As reported in PTI, Praveen Kumar said, “It could have been a lot worse. By the grace of god, we are okay and I am talking to you.”

“I had gone to drop my nephew but a massive truck hit my car from behind around 9.30 pm. Thank god it was a big car, else there could have been injuries.

“I initially thought just the bumper would be broken but the car is badly damaged.”

    Praveen Kumar’s Previous Car Accident

This isn’t the first time Kumar has been involved in a car accident. In 2007, when he had just broken into the Indian cricket team, he fell from a jeep.

However, this recent accident could have had far worse consequences. The truck driver responsible for the collision has been taken into custody, according to police reports.

Praveen Kumar’s Cricket Journey: From Indian Swing Bowler to Retirement

Praveen Kumar, now 36 years old, was a former swing bowler for the Indian cricket team. He represented India in six Tests, 68 ODIs, and ten T20Is between 2007 and 2012, taking 27, 77, and eight wickets, respectively. He retired from international cricket in October 2018 at the age of 32, accepting that his time in the game was over.

Kumar’s career highlights include his instrumental role in India’s ODI tri-series victory in Australia in 2008, where he played a crucial part in the finals, dismissing key batsmen and helping India defend a target.

He also had success in Test cricket, notably during India’s tour of England in 2011, where he emerged as the team’s highest wicket-taker. His impressive performance at Lord’s, including a five-wicket haul, earned him a place on the prestigious honours board.

In addition to his cricket career, Kumar currently runs a real-estate business and a restaurant in his hometown of Meerut. The car accident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of being grateful for one’s safety and well-being.
