Joburg Super Kings will be beginning their SA20 League 2024 campaign from 10th January 2024 when they lock horns with Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The match will be played at the St. George’s Park in Gqeberha and is slated to begin from 9:00 PM (IST).
The Super Kings had lost to Pretoria Capitals in the semi-finals of SA20 League 2023 and would be keen on crossing the semi-final and final frontier on this occasion. Faf Du Plessis will be leading the side and the onus is on the skipper to marshal his troops to glory.
Joburg Super Kings have some terrific batters and bowlers in their ranks and would be backing themselves to go all the way and win the 2nd edition of the SA20 League 2024, which is the premier franchise tournament of South Africa.
In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Joburg Super Kings can win the SA20 2024 League title:
1. The domineering presence of Stephen Fleming
Regarded as one of the best cricket coaches of all, Stephen Fleming will be at the helm of Joburg Super Kings. The former Kiwi captain is also the Head Coach of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has a fantastic track record.
Under Fleming, CSK have won 5 IPL titles and are the most consistent side in the history of the Indian Premier League. The 50-year-old former cricketer played a vital role in Joburg reaching the semi-finals of the SA20 League 2023.
2. Captain fantastic!
Joburg Super Kings will be led by charismatic leader and flamboyant batter, Faf Du Plessis. Faf Du Plessis is a class act and has been one of the most consistent T20 batters in franchise tournaments across the globe.
Faf Du Plessis also had a fantastic SA20 League 2023 season, where he scored 369 runs and finished as one of the top run-getters. He is extremely fit and is one of the most complete packages, Joburg Super Kings can have in their team.
3. Joburg Super Kings have a lethal bowling department
Another strength of Joburg Super Kings is their menacing bowling department. While the spin department will be led by veteran cricketer, Imran Tahir, pacers in the form of Lizaad Williams, Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee add to the firepower of this squad.
Coetzee had bagged 17 wickets in the previous edition of this tournament and is another interesting bowler to watch out for.
