The recently concluded ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup 2023 was historic in ways more than one. It was the inaugural edition of the Women’s U-19 World Cup 2023 and the first edition itself witnessed some exemplary performances from young colts across the globe.
India won the tournament after they beat England in the finals in what was an absolutely one-sided game. Shafali Verma led the team with perfection as she will now focus on the senior women’s T20 World Cup scheduled to be taking place in February 2023.
With 74 international caps under her belt, Shafali Verma has carved a niche for herself at the ripe age of 19. The Women’s U-19 World Cup witnessed some stellar knocks and in this article, we will be discussing them:
1. Shafali Verma (78 off 34 vs UAE U-19 W)
Shafali Verma activated her beast mode during a Group Stage game of the India U-19 women’s team against the UAE U-19 women’s team. She smashed a fabulous knock of 78 runs in just 34 deliveries and her willow breathed fire in that game.
The 19-year-old’s knock was packed with 12 fours and 4 sixes and she had a staggering strike rate of 229.41.
2. Grace Scrivens (93 off 56 vs IRE U-19 W)
The captain of the England U-19 women’s team Grace Scrivens showed everyone in the world why she is one of the most reliable batters of her nation at this stage. She scored 93 runs off just 56 balls against Ireland U-19 women in a group-stage game. Scrivens had opened the game for the Three Lions and had a fiery strike rate of 166.07.
3. Vishmi Gunaratne (61 off 54 vs BAN U-19 W)
Skipper Vishmi Gunaratne’s stellar knock of 61 runs went in vain during Sri Lanka’s run-chase as Bangladesh had the last laugh in this group-stage game of the ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup 2023.
Gunaratne stood tall from one end but failed to receive able support from the other batters of the island nation in this particular game against Bangladesh U-19 women’s team.
4. Shweta Sehrawat (61* off 45 vs NZ U-19 W)
In the semi-finals of the Women’s U-19 World Cup 2023, Shweta Sehrawat of India shone like a star in India’s semi-final against New Zealand.
The young tigresses broke the New Zealand jinx during the knockout stages of ICC tournaments as they reached the finals on the back of a convincing 8-wicket victory against New Zealand. Sehrawat was the top-scorer of India in this game and her innings was peppered with 10 fours.
5. Kayla Reyneke (53 off 49 vs SCO U-19 W)
South African prodigy Kayla Reyneke scored a valuable knock of 53 runs off 49 deliveries in a game against Scotland U-19 women. Coming in at number 4, she saved the batting order from a humiliating performance.
