WPL 2023: Jhulan Goswami Will Be Mentor Of Mumbai Indians WPL Team, Rejects Delhi Team Offer

The franchises have begun making preparations for the inaugural WPL season. Former India captain and renowned batter Mithali Raj was hired by the Gujarat Giants (Ahmedabad squad) as a mentor; now, Jhulan Goswami, her longstanding teammate and the leading wicket-taker in women’s ODI cricket, is poised to join the Mumbai-based team.

The 40-year-old Bengal pacer, who announced her retirement from international cricket in September of last year, will be a member of the coaching staff for the Mumbai WPL team.

Sourav Ganguly approached Jhulan Goswami, a great fast bowler from India, about a role with the Delhi Capitals. The 40-year-old has turned down the offers in favor of accepting the position of mentor and bowling coach at MI.

However, the team has yet to make an official announcement regarding the recruitment of Jhulan as a member of the team’s coaching team.

According to earlier reports, Jhulan and Mithali were both eager to play again for the first season. However, fans can see them now in a different role. Jhulan had the most international wickets of any bowler in women’s cricket with 355 across all formats.

The Mumbai franchise is owned by the Mumbai Indians organization, the most successful team in the Indian Premier League’s history and a five-time champion.

It’s possible that the player auction for the first WPL will take place on February 11 in New Delhi or February 13 in Mumbai. The BCCI will make a final choice this week.

Sourav Ganguly confirms, Jhulan has gone to Mumbai.

Jhulan has joined the team as a bowling coach and mentor, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo that quotes former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly as confirming the development.

Sourav Ganguly, the former president of the BCCI, confirmed Jhulan Goswami’s signing with the Mumbai Indians.

Jhulan had received an offer from Ganguly, who is presently serving as the Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket. The top ODI wicket-taker, though, accepted an offer from the Mumbai Indians.

“Jhulan has gone to Mumbai. We had given her an offer, but she is going to Mumbai,” Ganguly told.
