Carabao Cup 2023-24: Liverpool Register Historic 10th Title Victory After Narrow 1-0 Final Victory Against Chelsea

Date:

Liverpool scripted a fantastic 1-0 final victory against Chelsea at the Carabao Cup 2023-24 summit clash and this is indeed a very special victory for Jurgen Klopp and co. The Reds have now won 10 Carabao Cup titles and are the most successful side in this competition.

Manchester City have won 8 titles and Manchester United have won this competition on 6 occasions. Liverpool had a neck-to-neck battle against Chelsea in this match and this helped them in winning their 10th title.

A couple of years ago, Liverpool had won the title after beating Chelsea itself. It was in several ways, a Déjà vu for a lot of Liverpool fans.

Liverpool displayed aggression and intent early on in the match. In the 8th minute of the game, Andy Robertson gave an inch-perfect cross from the left and a header from Luis Diaz almost found the back of the net.

But the goalkeeper of Chelsea, Djordje Petrovic reacted quickly and saved the goal for Chelsea.

In the 20th minute of the game, Cole Palmer almost found the back of the net for Chelsea from close-range but it didn’t materialise into a goal as Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher did quite well to save the incoming threat.

At the end of the first half, the scoreline of the game read 0-0 and it was even-stevens for both the sides.

Even the 2nd half couldn’t produce a goal and it was only in the extra-time, that Liverpool found the net. In the 118th minute, Liverpool squared through a set-piece. Virgil van Dijk’s exceptional header kissed the back of the net and made sure that Jurgen Klopp and co. win the title.

Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp described this win as “the most special trophy”.

“What we see today is so exceptional. We might never see it again, these things don’t happen in football. Apparently, you don’t win trophies with kids, I didn’t know that,” said Klopp at the post-match press conference.

“It is easily the most special trophy I’ve ever won. It’s absolutely exceptional. I wish I could feel pride more often, tonight that’s the overwhelming feeling – nothing to do with maybe my last game at Wembley. It was how everyone contributed,” he added.

Liverpool are also ruling the roost in Premier League

Jurgen Klopp and co. are also right at the top of the points table in Premier League. In 26 matches, they have amassed 60 points and are 1 point clear off Manchester City, who are in the 2nd position.

Liverpool had last won a Premier League title in 2019-20 and they would be looking to repeat the heroics in this season as well.
