Chennaiyin FC vs Hyderabad FC

It was a game that saw Chennaiyin FC put out their best performance. Thomas Brdaric’s men put up an exemplary piece of performance but a late penalty goal from Hyderabad FC’s Bartholomew Ogbeche, made the Chennai Machans get only 1 point from this game.

The goal came in the 87th minute and it crushed the spirit of Chennaiyin FC, who looked indomitable at one point. Petar Sliskovic put the away team’s noses ahead in the 57th minute after a goal. After a good run from Ninthoinganba Meetel (commonly known as Nintoi) in the right flank, there was a proper set piece from Chennaiyin FC.

Aakash Sangwan then passed the ball to Petar Sliskovic and the Croatian forward netted his 8th goal in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23. He is now the joint-leading goal-scorer of ISL 2022-23 and is in piping-hot form.

A lifeline came rushing to the defending champions as Vafa Hakhamaneshi brought Javier Siverio down in the penalty box. Arguably Hyderabad FC’s best player, Bartholomew Ogbeche did not squander the golden opportunity to score. The Nigerian forward brought about his 7th goal in ISL 2022-23 and has a great chance of winning the Golden Boot award, having won the award in ISL 2021-22.

Hyderabad FC would be happy to have salvaged one point from this game. It was a crucial fixture for Chennaiyin FC but they managed to muster only a single point from here. The Chennai Machans remain in the 7th position of the points table and presently have 16 points under their belt. The two-time ISL winner, Chennaiyin FC is 3 points behind FC Goa, who is in the 6th position.

They will next be locking horns with ATK Mohun Bagan on 21st January 2023 at the Salt Lake Stadium. Hyderabad FC too will be traveling next to Kolkata to take on East Bengal FC at the Salt Lake Stadium on 20th January 2023.
