Jamshedpur FC vs Odisha FC 2023

A resurgent Jamshedpur FC side defeated Odisha FC 2-0 and landed a major blow to the playoffs chances to the Juggernauts in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23. The score-line read 2-0 and Harry Sawyer and Ritwik Das netted the goals for the Red Miners.

Jamshedpur FC ended their season on a high as Aidy Boothroyd publicly said in the press conference that he “doesn’t want the season to end”. Last season’s ISL League Shield Winners would now be hoping to take this momentum forward to the Super Cup which will be taking place in Kerala in April.

Even though there were a few substantial chances from both teams to break the deadlock, none of them could register a goal in the first half.

In the 34th minute, Odisha FC’s Diego Mauricio had a golden opportunity of scoring. He came in from the left flank, dribbled past 3 defenders but his shot at the goal went straight at the hands of the opposition goalkeeper.

The half-time score read 0-0 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar.

A defensive mistake from Odisha FC’s Narender Gahlot powered Jamshedpur FC to their first goal after Harry Sawyer headed the ball home in the 61st minute. Just 2 minutes later, Jamshedpur FC’s leading goal-scorer in ISL 2022-23, Ritwik Das netted his 6th goal of the tournament.

Odisha FC once again took a shot through Diego Mauricio around the 80th minute that resulted in a set-piece corner. But the corner couldn’t materialise into a goal.

Odisha FC’s playoffs hopes hang by a thread now. They would have to hope that FC Goa either draw or lose their next game against Bengaluru FC today at 7:30 PM (IST).

The difference between the two sides is just 3 points and a win for the Gaurs would help them qualify for the playoffs because of their better Goal Difference (GD).
