Kylian Mbappé’s representatives have strongly denied allegations reported by Swedish media, claiming that the French football star is under investigation for rape following an incident in Stockholm.
The allegations surfaced after a visit Mbappé made to the city on October 10, 2024, where he reportedly attended a nightclub and stayed at a hotel.
Several Swedish outlets, including Expressen, Aftonbladet, and public broadcaster SVT, reported that Mbappé is “reasonably suspected” of rape.
These reports emerged after Swedish prosecutors confirmed that a criminal report had been filed concerning a suspected rape incident at a hotel in central Stockholm.
While the Swedish Prosecution Authority acknowledged that a complaint had been lodged, they did not identify any suspects or provide further details about the investigation.
Prosecutor Marina Chirakova stated that names of suspects are typically not disclosed until charges are filed or pre-trial detention is ordered.
Response from Mbappé’s Representatives
In response to the allegations, Mbappé’s communications team issued a statement condemning the reports as “false and irresponsible.”
They characterized the claims as “slanderous” and unacceptable, asserting that Mbappé would not tolerate any damage to his integrity, reputation, or honor due to unfounded insinuations.
A spokesperson for Mbappé emphasized:
“These accusations are totally false and irresponsible, and their propagation is unacceptable.”
Mbappé himself took to social media to voice his outrage, labeling the reports as “FAKE NEWS!!!!”
He linked the timing of these allegations to an ongoing legal dispute with his former club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) over unpaid wages, suggesting that the claims were strategically timed to coincide with a hearing related to this matter.
What did Mbappé’s Representatives say?
Mbappé’s lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, expressed her client’s bewilderment regarding the allegations. She stated:
“We are told that a complaint has been lodged, but at this stage we don’t even know against whom… A complaint does not make the truth; a complaint does not prove anything.”
Canu-Bernard highlighted that while there may be a complaint filed, it does not necessarily implicate Mbappé or confirm any wrongdoing on his part.
She also indicated that if he were directly targeted by the investigation, he would cooperate fully with authorities.
As of now, Kylian Mbappé has returned to training with Real Madrid following his brief stay in Stockholm. The club has yet to comment publicly on the situation.
Meanwhile, French national team coach Didier Deschamps remarked on the negative impact such reports can have on team dynamics but refrained from making specific comments about Mbappé’s situation.
