Super Cup 2023

After the successful completion of the qualifying round and the group stage of the Super Cup 2023, the action now shifts to the semi-finals. 4 deserving teams have qualified for the semi-finals and there will be plenty of action, excitement and drama.

All the semi-finalists of the Super Cup 2023 are Indian Super League (ISL) teams. None of the I-League teams have qualified for the semi-finals and that just shows the gulf between the ISL and the I-League football leagues in India.

The last group-stage game of Super Cup was between East Bengal FC and Aizawl FC. Despite being 2-0 up, East Bengal FC once again squandered the opportunity to seal off the game. This has been a major problem for the Red and Gold Brigade and they ought to fix it.

East Bengal FC will be without the services of their Head Coach Stephen Constantine as the board has decided to part ways with them. The century-old club is on the lookout for a new coach.

A dark-horse in the Super Cup 2023 is NorthEast United FC. After finishing in the last position in ISL 2022-23, the Highlanders have utilised the break between ISL 2022-23 and Super Cup 2023 and have come back rejuvenated.

They steamrolled past Churchill Brothers 6-3 and also defeated ISL 2022-23 League Shield Winners, Mumbai City FC.
