Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer will be playing for Mumbai Indians in this Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Mumbai had gotten hold of the services of Archer in the IPL 2022 Mega auctions for a sum of Rs. 8 crores despite knowing that he might not be available for IPL 2022.

The English bowling all-rounder spent nearly 17 months in the side-lines after suffering from back and elbow injuries.

He is now fully fit and has been playing white-ball cricket for the Three Lions.

As Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of IPL 2023 because of a back injury, the responsibilities of Jofra Archer will be heightened.

He will essentially be spearheading the bowling attack of Mumbai Indians.

In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Jofra Archer might have a good IPL season in the forthcoming one:

1. Jofra Archer is fresh from everything

Jofra Archer doesn’t have the baggage of form in his head.

Sometimes when you are paid a humongous sum in IPL, you tend to have an overweight baggage on your head, especially when you haven’t played the previous season.

Since Jofra Archer hasn’t played the previous IPL season, he would be absolutely fresh in his approach and his game plan.

He also has the backing of the team management of Mumbai Indians and that would help him excel in IPL 2023.

2. Archer is a gun all-rounder

Not just with the ball, Jofra Archer can be lethal with the bat. He can strike big blows with his willow and is a handy batter in the lower order.

While he played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, he showcased his mettle and skills as a batter.

In IPL 2020 while representing the Rajasthan Royals franchise, Archer bagged 20 wickets and also scored 113 runs.

He is a complete package in an IPL team and Mumbai would be heavily reliant of the English cricketer.

3. He was in fine form in the last ODI series

While playing for England against Bangladesh in the recently-concluded ODI series, Jofra Archer looked to be in good touch.

He bagged 5 wickets in 2 games and often sent shivers down the spines of the Bangladeshi batters.

He had an exceptional average of 14.40 and was extremely economical in the slow and sluggish conditions of Bangladesh.

The English speedster would be drawing confidence from this series and would be hoping to translate it into the pace friendly conditions of Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
