Since its first season in 2008, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has grown in every possible way.
It has become the biggest and the most popular T20 franchise league in the world and several countries have followed IPL’s models of T20 cricket.
Mumbai Indians (MI) are the most successful franchise in the IPL with 5 titles under their belt.
Rohit Sharma has been a very successful captain and has extended his dominant footprint in the IPL with the Mumbai Paltans.
The next most successful franchise in IPL is the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise.
Under the astute leadership of MS Dhoni, Chennai have laid their hands on 4 titles so far. Following which the next team is Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with 2 titles in their kitty.
Now the USP of the IPL is the glitz and glamour associated with it.
The fireworks which we witness metaphorically after every six, adds to the excellence of this league.
The more number of sixes we witness, the more entertained the crowd becomes.
To highlight the exceptional work done by players to tonk those maximums, there is an award in IPL called the Maximum Sixes award.
It is given to the player with the maximum number of sixes in a season.
West Indian superstar Chris Gayle was an absolute beast in the IPL.
Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Gayle was a mile ahead of everyone rest. He has won the Maximum Sixes award in IPL on 4 occasions, which is a record feat!
From 2011 to 2013, the southpaw had won the award continuously as nobody could match up to his six-hitting prowess.
In IPL 2017, Glenn Maxwell and David Warner were tied in the race for the most sixes award.
Maxwell received the award later as he had a better strike-rate in the tournament.
