Kane Williamson IPL 2023 injury

The opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 was won by defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT). Despite Ruturaj Gaikwad’s heroics, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended up being on the losing side. But a major setback that happened in the game was Kane Williamson’s injury.

In the 13th over of the game, Kane Williamson tried to stop a sure-six in the deep square leg region and injured his right knee in the process. Ruturaj Gaikwad had hit that shot and Williamson did all the hard-work to catch hold of the ball. But he landed awkwardly on his right knee.

He was seen in a lot of distress and it seemed like it was a major injury in the debut game of Kane Williamson for Gujarat Titans. The former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain was then substituted by Sai Sudharsan. He was later swapped by the southpaw as a part of the Impact Rule.

What is the latest update of Kane Williamson’s injury?

There is not a lot of clarity on Kane Williamson’s injury as he has gone to the hospital for the medical scans. In the post-press conference, skipper Hardik Pandya said that they will have to wait for the scans and the reports.

But it seems like Kane Williamson’s knee is badly injured. It remains to be seen whether he will play in IPL 2023 as the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is also slated to be taking place in this year itself.

“I just messaged him. I don’t know about the update. He has gone for the scans. So, once he comes back after the scans and the doctors check, then only will be able to know what exactly it is.

Right now, there is no time frame – what exactly has happened. It is the knee for sure. But I don’t know how serious it is and how much time he will take, said Hardik Pandya about Kane Williamson, in the post-match press conference.

Gujarat Titans won the game by 5 wickets

Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan kept their cool as guided Gujarat to a victory in the season opener. At one stage, Gujarat were in a precarious condition. But the iceman Tewatia and experienced campaigner Rashid Khan made sure Gujarat win the game with 4 balls remaining.

Khan also bagged the player of the match award. The Afghani bowling all-rounder bagged 2 wickets and scored 10 runs in 3 balls under pressure.
