RR vs GT talking points

Rajasthan Royals (RR) slumped to their first defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as they suffered a 3-wicket loss at the hands of last year’s finalist, Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur.

Sanju Samson and co. were in the driver’s seat of the game for the majority of the match but the last few overs in the 2nd innings turned the entire course in favour of the visitors. Shubman Gill and co. registered their 3rd victory in IPL 2024 and the finishing prowess of GT, which we have witnessed in the last couple of editions too, was once again visible today.

Rajasthan remain at the top position in IPL 2024 and Gujarat are presently in the 6th position in the points table.

In this article, we take a look at the top 3 talking points of the RR vs GT game in the ongoing IPL 2024:

1. Riyan Parag’s impressive form continues

Riyan Parag smashed 76 runs in 48 balls in Match 24 of IPL 2024 and continued his supreme form in the ongoing IPL. He stitched a fabulous 130-run partnership with his skipper Sanju Samson and made sure that RR get to a competitive total in the 1st innings.

Parag’s innings was peppered with 3 fours and 5 sixes and he was smashing the bowlers with disdain. One of the main reasons why the Gujarat bowlers returned with expensive figures except Rashid Khan was the blistering batting form of Riyan Parag.

2. Shubman Gill’s fiery knock

The skipper of Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill once again delivered the goods with perfection as he scored 72 runs in 44 deliveries. His knock was packed with 6 fours and 2 sixes and he had a fiery strike-rate of 163.64.

Shubman Gill was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 16th over and that felt like Rajasthan were on top in Match 24.

3. Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia’s finishing touch

At a time when pressure was mounting on Gujarat Titans, finishers Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan did what they do best. Counter-attack.

And it was Gujarat who eventually won the game. 17 runs were scored in the final over and it was a nightmarish finish for the Rajasthan team. While the leg-spinner smashed 24* runs in 11 balls, southpaw Tewatia scored 22 runs in 11 balls in this match.
