The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are reportedly to make major changes to their roster ahead of IPL 2025, with KL Rahul’s retention increasingly in doubt.

After three seasons with the franchise, including two playoff qualifications, the management is evaluating his performance critically.

Despite being a prominent figure in LSG’s lineup, Rahul’s inconsistent scoring and declining strike rates have raised concerns among the team’s decision-makers.

As per media reports, LSG may ultimately decide to part ways with their captain, making way for fresh faces that align better with their future ambitions.

Here are three reasons why LSG may choose not to retain Rahul for the upcoming season.

1. Inconsistent Performance

K.L. Rahul has faced criticism for his inconsistent performances in recent matches, particularly in high-stakes situations.

His struggles with form have raised questions about his ability to deliver when it matters most.

In the current Test series against New Zealand, for instance, he recorded low scores of 0 and 12 in the first Test, which has led to doubts about his reliability as a key player for LSG.

If this trend continues, LSG may opt for players who can provide more consistent contributions.

2. Emergence of Alternatives

The emergence of promising talents like Sarfaraz Khan has intensified competition for batting spots within the team.

Sarfaraz’s impressive performance in the recent Test match, where he scored a crucial century, has made a strong case for his inclusion in the playing XI over Rahul.

With younger players stepping up and showcasing their potential, LSG might prioritize retaining fresh talent that can contribute significantly in the long run.

3. Strategic Team Composition

LSG’s management may decide to reshape their squad strategically ahead of IPL 2025. Retaining Rahul could limit their flexibility in acquiring other impactful players during the auction.

Given that franchises often look to balance experience with emerging talent, LSG may view Rahul’s retention as a hindrance to building a more dynamic and competitive team composition.

This strategic shift could lead them to explore other options that align better with their long-term goals.
