Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were the runners-up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and were touted to once again perform exceedingly well in IPL 2025. But as fate had it, SRH flattered to deceive in IPL 2025 and are languishing at the bottom half of the points table.
Hyderabad haven’t been able to deliver the goods in the ongoing IPL and have been at the receiving end of the other teams. SRH have always been a flamboyant side and have been the cynosure of all eyes.
In IPL 2025, at the time of writing this article, Pat Cummins and co. are presently in the 9th position in the points table.
In this article, we take a look at the top 3 reasons why Sunrisers Hyderabad haven’t been able to perform well in IPL 2025:
1. Unpredictable Opening Pair
Both Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma are quality players and have had the experience of playing international cricket. The duo performed exceedingly well in IPL 2024 and that was one of the main reasons why Hyderabad had qualified for the finals.
In IPL 2025, none of the two batters have been consistent. While Travis Head has had an average of 29.00, Abhishek Sharma has had a paltry average of 26.67.
2. Middle-Order Not Performing Well
While SRH has a star-studded top-order that included Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Ishan Kishan, the middle-order of SRH hasn’t been able to perform well at all.
It is only Heinrich Klaasen who has thrown caution to the wind and has been performing well in the middle-order. Klaasen is also the leading run-scorer of SRH in the ongoing IPL and has scored 288 runs at an average of 36.00.
3. Bowlers Leaking Runs
SRH’s bowlers haven’t been up to the mark and have lost the plot during tight situations. While Mohammad Shami has picked up 6 wickets at a poor average of 48.17, Pat Cummins has had an average of 33.78.
The likes of Zeeshan Ansari and Harshal Patel, too have been super expensive and therefore, SRH has not been able to perform well in IPL 2025.
