Mumbai Indians is currently playing against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021. MI has surprisingly dropped their middle-order batsman Ishan Kishan. And, the decision didn’t go down well former West Indies batsman Brian Lara. The southpaw also backed Chris Lynn’s selection in the side in place of out-of-form Quinton de Kock.

Ishan Kishan is one of the upcoming young talents, who has performed well for MI in the past couple of years. But, in this edition, Kishan struggled a lot to score runs in the first few games for the blues. He amassed 73 runs at an average of 14.60, striking at 82.95. In the match against MI replaced Ishan Kishan with Aussie pacer Nathan Coulter Nile. The defending champions looked focused on adding more firepower in the bowling unit.

As soon as MI released their playing 11 for the match against RR, Brian Lara didn’t look impressed with the decision of Mumbai Indians. He said that Chris Lynn got runs with the bat in his only chance. On the other hand, Quinton de Kock is still to prove his worth with the bat. As per him, if MI can offer the chance to Proteas wicketkeeper then Ishan Kishan also deserved a chance.

“Sometimes you need to be very careful, you are leaving Chennai, you go to give everybody a chance because everyone struggled in Chennai. Even you could have got rid of Quinton de Kock, Chris Lynn scored runs but you will not and try him again. I would have gone with Ishan Kishan just once more and see how his form is. On his day he is a match-winner,” Lara told Sports Today.
