The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will conduct its Apex Council meeting on Wednesday, as per media reports the central contracts, and the appointment of the new selection committee are among the items on the agenda.

The council is likely to discuss split coaching and captaincy for various game types during the virtual meeting. After a dismal loss to England in the ICC T20 World Cup semifinal, the Indian squad may be getting a new T20I captain and coach.

A review of the T20 World Cup or the Bangladesh series is not currently on the agenda, but chairperson Roger Binny has the authority to call them in. India’s recent performances have not pleased the BCCI and they are likely to discuss it. With the CAC in place, the Apex Council can decide on a new captain, new coaches for the T20 and ODI teams, and a new selection committee.

Split captain & coach 

Rohit Sharma, who will turn 36 in April, does not have age on his side is likely to split his workload. Hardik Pandya is likely to be the next Indian T20 captain. The subject of split coaching will also be a significant topic of discussion. Rahul Dravid has made the suggestion that his busy schedule has left him with a lot on his plate. 

The BCCI is considering a divided coaching role because the T20s have not produced the desired outcomes. Dravid will continue to serve as the ODI and Test team’s coach, and a replacement may be named for the T20 squad.

BCCI Apex Council Meeting: Things likely to be discussed 

At the upcoming meeting of the BCCI, the new central contracts are likely to be discussed and Suryakumar Yadav may receive a promotion. Additionally, the appointment of the new selection committee is expected to be approved and the status of the team’s sponsors BYJUs and MPL will be considered. 

An infrastructure sub-committee is likely to be formed and venues for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Australia discussed. Injury management, particularly for injured players such as Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja, will also be discussed. The decision on India vs Australia pink-ball Test in Ahmedabad might also be discussed.
