India T20 Coach & Captain

Following India’s dismal exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is seriously considering appointing a separate coach for the Indian T20I setup, which is a significant development for Indian cricket. According to speculations, the office holders could soon reveal India’s new T20I captain and coach.

It’s interesting that the developments have come to light following India’s disappointing elimination from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. India had a strong run in the group stages, but they were defeated by England in the second semifinal of the competition, prolonging their wait for a second World Cup victory.

New captain and coach for India

The BCCI may choose a new Indian captain and coach for the 20-over format as early as January 2023, according to InsideSport. If everything goes according to this information, India will play Sri Lanka in a limited-overs series in January with a new captain and coach.

“We are seriously mulling on it. More than it being Rahul Dravid or anyone’s ability, it is a question of managing tight schedules & having specialized skills on board. T20 now is like a separate sport, tough calendar & regular events. We also need to imbibe change. Yes, I can confirm – India soon will have a new T20 Coaching set-up”, confirmed a top official in BCCI.

Hardik Pandya Likely to be the new T20 captain

It was previously stated that the seasoned Hardik Pandya is being considered as a possible contender for the T20I skipper job. In a recent tour of New Zealand, the all-rounder led the Indian team.

Notably, Rahul Dravid will collaborate with the next T20I coach and captain to provide a seamless transition and continuity in the Indian team across all forms.

When queried about the event’s timing, the source declined to provide specific dates but did say that further advancements are probably going to happen in January.

“We are not sure by when, but we are certain about India needs a fresh approach to the T20 set-up. We will have the announcement of the new captain before January. And the new coach can follow, but as I said nothing is final”, said the official without revealing any further details.
