Earlier, this year Harbhajan Singh bid adieu to all forms of cricket except for IPL. The former off-spinner spilled beans on how BCCI treated him after the 2011 World Cup. Meanwhile, he also mentioned that the selectors lend more support to MS Dhoni and not to other senior players like Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir.
Harbhajan Singh is one of the best off-spinner produced by Indian Cricket. He was part fo India’s 2007 T20 World Cup-winning squad and 2011 World Cup squad. He played a crucial role with the ball in both the mega-events for the Men in Blue. He holds several records with the ball in international cricket. Also, he is one of the top three leading wicket-takers in the history of Indian cricket.
Harbhajan Singh talks about his relationship with former Indian skipper MS Dhoni
In an interview, Bhajji was quizzed over his relationship with former World Cup-winning skipper MS Dhoni. The former off-spinner asserted that he shares good bond with Dhoni. He added that it was never the former skipper’s fault that he was backed by the BCCI more in comparison to other players.
As per him, his quote was misinterpreted and Harbhajan mentioned that things could have been really better if legends of Indian cricket like Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, and others could have played together post-2011 World Cup as well.
“See, everyone interprets a quote differently. I just wanted to convey that a lot of things could have been better post 2012. (Virender) Sehwag, me, Yuvraj (Singh), (Gautam) Gambhir could have retired playing for Indian team since all of them were active in IPL as well. It is ironical that the Champions of the 2011 team never played together again! Why? Only few of them played in 2015 World Cup, why?” he asked.
“No, not at all. I have no complaints against MS. In fact, he has been a good friend all these years. I have complaint to the BCCI, the sarkar (government) of that time. I call BCCI as sarkar! The selectors of that time didn’t do justice to their roles. They didn’t allow the team to be united,” he said.
Harbhajan revealed that at one point he even confronted Indian selectors asking why senior players were not picked when they were producing good cricket performances on the field in international cricket and IPL.
“What was the point of bringing in new guys when the greats were still around and delivering? I once confronted the selectors on this and their reply was it wasn’t in their hands and then I asked why they are the selectors, then?” he added.
