IPL 2022: Shane Watson to Join Delhi Capitals as Assistant Coach – Report

Shane Watson bid adieu to all forms of cricket back in 2020. He is reckoned as one of the best all-rounders in the history of Cricket Australia. And, now, he is all set to start the 2nd innings of his career by taking up the role of assistant coach in one of the franchises of the Indian Premier League as per reports.

Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting has asked the franchise to bring Shane Watson on board for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League 2022. The former Aussie cricketer has played for different franchises like Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inception of the cash-rich league.

Shane Watson returning to IPL but not as player

As per the latest reports of Cricbuzz, Delhi Capitals is set to hire Shane Watson after DC Head Coach Ricky Ponting. Interestingly, DC management as well as former Aussie cricketer have agreed on a deal.

Shane Watson’s last team in IPL was Chennai Super Kings. He has lifted a cash-rich league trophy with Rajasthan Royals (IPL 2008), and Chennai Super Kings (IPL 2018). The right-handed all-rounder is statured as one of the best in the history of the Indian Premier League. He recorded 3874 runs in 145 games with 92 wickets.

Capitals recently bought some strong players in the IPL 2022 Mega-Auction with the likes of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Shardul Thakur in order to strengthen their squad.
