For the first SA20, the owners of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) selected a sister franchise with Johannesburg as their home base. The South African attempt to create a premier league saw the creation of the Joburg Super Kings (JSK), who are preparing for the inaugural season in January 2023.
CSK is currently getting ready for the IPL 2023 Auction, which will take place on December 23 in Kochi. The four-time IPL champions have seven positions to fill and a remaining budget of $20.45 crore after keeping 18 players.
At the first SA20 Auction, the Joburg franchise was praised for building a strong team. While the Royal Challengers Bangalore will continue to be led by the beloved Faf du Plessis of the Super Kings, there are several other players from their SA20 team, they could target at the IPL 2023 Auction.
Reeza Hendricks
Reeza Hendricks, who cost the squad Rand 4.50 million, was the second most expensive acquisition at the SA20 auction. Hendricks has long been a crucial component of the South African team. The 33-year-old has proven his mettle on the international scene and cemented his position at the top of the order for his nation’s side. Hendricks has scored 1372 runs with a strike rate of 125.41 in 48 T20I matches. Hendricks has proven in T20I matches that he can rapidly shift gears when necessary, and IPL franchises may aim to add the top batsman at the upcoming auction.
Romario Shepherd
The powerful West Indian all-rounder, who commanded a staggering 7.75 crore deal in the player auction, made his IPL debut with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) last season. However, he was only able to participate in three games and could not leave a lasting impression.
Shepherd will be available for grabs once more during the IPL 2023 Auction after being released by SRH. He was an interesting pre-auction signing by Johannesburg for the first SA20.
Following Dwayne Bravo’s departure from the IPL, CSK may target Shepherd with the intention of developing him into a long-term replacement. Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if they bid for him at the IPL 2023 Auction.
Harry Brook
Harry Brook, who is considered one of the game’s brightest prospects, participated in England’s successful T20 World Cup campaign in Australia last month. The 23-year-old Yorkshireman has made great leaps in his brief career despite not having a significant impact on the competition. One of them was a scorching hundred against Pakistan in the Rawalpindi Test.
He is an excellent prospective investment due to his range, particularly against quick bowlers, and his dependability as a fielder in key areas. At the SA20 Auction, Johannesburg took such action, and one may anticipate that their sister franchise CSK will follow suit at the IPL 2023 Auction.
