Ravi Shastri gives a big statement on Rishabh Pant after the latter got out in the most irresponsible fashion against South Africa in 3rd ODI. The former Indian coach opined that the youngster can go on to become Team India’s skipper in the future and the selectors should keep his name in their minds.

Rishabh Pant, who made his international cricket debut back in 2019, has successfully captained Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2021 season. He impressed everyone with his leadership skills. Even, he is retained by DC for the upcoming edition of IPL over Shreyas Iyer.

Ravi Shastri comes out saying that Rishabh Pant can be the future skipper of India

Rishabh Pant has played some remarkable knocks in his short cricket career. But, one thing that cannot be forgotten is that he plays risky strokes that sometimes let down his team. He is one of the promising talents, who can go on to become one of the best in international cricket. But, questions have been raised on his game-reading abilities. On many occasions, he got out playing rash strokes in the games due to which Team India had to suffer.

In the 3rd ODI, Rishabh Dhawan came out to bat after the departure of settled Shikhar Dhawan. He was expected to stitch a good partnership with Virat Kohli in the game. But, the southpaw had some other plans as he tried to smash Proteas pacer Andile Phehlukwayo for a six. He stepped out of the crease in order to smash six over the covers. But, he was caught by the fielder near the boundary rope and Virat Kohli, who was standing at the non-striker’s end, was spotted giving him an angry look.

The commentators and cricket fans were left shocked on why Rishabh Pant played that stroke on the very first delivery of his match. Even, many questions his match reading capabilities. But, former Indian coach feels otherwise.

Now, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has come up with his opinion. He said that Rishabh Pant is a promising cricketer. As per him, the southpaw listens to his seniors and he is a very good reader of the game. The former Indian coach even added that the youngster should be kept in mind whenever there is a talk about leadership.

“Rishabh is a tremendous young player. As a coach, I was very fond of him, his attitude and the good thing about him was that he would always listen to you. A lot of people say, he always does what he wants but that’s not true. He reads the game well and would always put my team effort first than self. So he should always be kept in mind for leadership,” Shastri said.
