Shikhar Dhawan had a stupendous captaincy debut for Team India as records galore for the southpaw in Colombo after winning 1st ODI. India steered to an easy win against the hosts in the series opener on the back of impressive performance put forward by their bowlers, batsmen, and skipper Shikhar Dhawan explicitly. The left-handed batsman made several cricket records on his captaincy debut that made his debut captaincy game memorable for life.

Shikhar Dhawan played captain’s knock of unbeaten 86 runs in the 1st ODI. His contribution with the bat played a crucial role in making Team India win the series opener. He was well supported by the young Indian batsmen Prithvi Shaw (43 runs off 24 balls) and Ishan Kishan (59 runs off 42 balls) from the other batting end while chasing a respectable total of 263 runs in stipulated 50 overs.

Throughout Team India’s chase, Shikhar Dhawan played the role of sheet anchor and allowed young guns of Indian cricket to express themselves in the best possible way. In the 1st ODI, Shikhar Dhawan achieved the milestone of scoring 6000 ODI runs playing for Team India. Meanwhile, he surpassed former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly and current Indian opener Rohit Sharma and became the fastest Indian opener to reach the 6000 ODI runs milestone. He achieved this feat in just 140 ODIs whereas Sourav Ganguly did it in 160 innings and Rohit Sharma managed to do so in 200 innings. Also, he became the 10th Indian batsman to score 6000 ODI runs from India.

Shikhar Dhawan completed 10,000 runs in international cricket as an opener. He achieved the memorable milestone against Sri Lanka in 1st ODI during his brilliant unbeaten 86 runs knock. The southpaw became the 5th Indian opener after Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Rohit Sharma to achieve the rare feat in international cricket.

The left-handed batsman has scored 2,315 runs in 34 Test matches, 6,063 runs in 143 ODI games, and 1,673 runs in 65 T20Is.
