WTC Points Table

On Sunday, Team India climbed to second place in the ICC World Test Championship points standings. This comes after South Africa lost to Australia in their first Test at the Gabba in Brisbane and India destroyed Bangladesh by 188 runs in the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

After falling to scores of 152 and 99 in their first and second innings, respectively, the Proteas lost the game by six wickets. Notably, before the start of both games, India was ranked fourth and South Africa was ranked second in the league.

India now tops South Africa (54.54) and Sri Lanka (53.33) in the World Test Championship standings with a PCT of 55.77 points. Three teams are presently competing for the top two slots in the WTC cycle: Australia, South Africa, and India.

Updated World Test Championship points table

With a win percentage of 76.92, Australia has maintained its top spot on the points chart. Nine of the 13 games the Pat Cummins-led team has played so far have been victories.

India is currently in second place behind them with a win percentage of 55.77.

South Africa, meanwhile, dropped to third place after their loss and now has a win percentage of 54.55.

Following India’s victory, Sri Lanka dropped one position and is presently in fourth place. Their winning percentage is 53.33.

Australia wins benefit for India

India’s chances would also be impacted by the results of the current three-test series between Australia and South Africa. After recently defeating the West Indies 2-0 at home, Australia will advance to the final if it defeats the Proteas 3-0.

India still has five Test matches left, four of which will be played at home beginning in February against Australia and one against Bangladesh (December 22–26). If India defeats Bangladesh 2-0, they will need at least three victories and a draw against Australia to ensure their place in the final with a minimum PCT of 64.35.
