West Indies ended India’s dream in the 2016 T20 World Cup semi-final at Wankhede. West Indies have twice won the World T20. On the other hand, India has reached the final twice. India won in 2007 and was defeated in the 2014 World T20 Final by Srilanka. The one common thing in both India’s 2007 and 2014 World T20 campaigns was West Indies.
Prior to both World T20’s, West Indies were champions of the ICC Trophy. In 2007, West Indies were the champions of the ICC Champions Trophy title. India reached the World T20 final and won the title. In 2014, West Indies were the reigning Champions of the 2012 World T20, India again reached the World T20 final.
Although India lost the final against Srilanka in 2014, we can’t deny that A Champion West Indies team brings luck to the India team in World T20s. West Indies are again reigning Champions of 2016 World T20 if India reached the final again. They will definitely bring the cup home, given the strength of the Indian team.
Hopes are high this time around for India. Firstly it is being held in subcontinent conditions, so conditions will be favorable for India. Such stats don’t affect on-field performance but can provide a mental boost to fans and teams. Indian fans have suffered many heartbreaks over the years. They will hope 2021 will break the jinx and give them to reason to celebrate after a 14-year drought for World T20 Championship.
