IND vs AUS ICC ODI World Cup 2023

India and Australia cut the ribbon in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. As expected, the Indians didn’t disappoint and clinched off a famous 6-wicket victory against the Australians.

Several records were shattered during this match and this was an absolute masterclass of a game and the visiting fans would be extremely happy for their value for money. Batting on a pitch which aided spinners and was quite slow, Australia was outdone by the Indian spinners.

After being skittled out for a paltry score of 199, Australia didn’t give up fighting. They brought India down to their haunches during the run-chase and one time, India were languishing at 2-3.

But Virat Kohli and KL Rahul steadied India’s drowning ship and steered course to victory shores.

In this article, we take a look at the top 3 talking points in this IND vs AUS ICC ODI World Cup 2023 game:

1. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s match-winning partnership

At a time when India was tottering at 2-3, things looked quite bleak for the 2-time ODI World Cup winners. The Australian seamers were all over India’s batting and everything looked doom and gloom for the Indians.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul rescued India out of the troubled waters and fixed India’s loopholes in this match. They stitched an outstanding partnership of 165 runs and it was enough to take Australia out of the game.

While Player of the Match, KL Rahul, scored 97* runs and missed a much-deserved century by a whisker, the master of run-chases, Virat Kohli, amassed a knock of 85 runs, before he holed one straight to the mid-wicket fielder.

2. India’s spin-kings deliver the goods

Ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, India’s strong spin-bowling department was much-talked about. The likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja were India’s pillars in the bowling department and they delivered on their expectations.

While Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for the Indians, bagging 3 wickets, Yadav took 2 wickets. The most experienced of them all, Ravichandran Ashwin, managed to only get the wicket of Cameron Green, whilst maintaining an incredible economy of 3.4.

3. Jasprit Bumrah’s incredible World Cup comeback

After missing out on the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 because of a back injury, Jasprit Bumrah staged a fabulous comeback into the World Cup side of India, with a stellar performance. The speedster bagged 2 wickets and conceded only 35 runs in 10 overs.

His return to the side and his good form would certainly hold India in good stead in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
