Zaheer Khan Wants Indian Players To Remind David Warner And Steve Smith Of Sandpaper Gate

Date:

India and Australia are currently playing the third and final ODI of the series at Manuka Oval in Canberra. The visitors have already conceded the series to Australia and they are trying hard to leave a mark in the final contest. Soon after the one-day series, Team India will lock horns with Aussies in a three-match T20I series and four Tests. Looking forward to the long tour, Zaheer Khan, the former Indian pacer has come out with cheeky advice for Ravi Shastri in order to ignite a spark in the players.

India and Australia’s on-field rivalry is very famous in international cricket. The latter is known for sledging its opponents during the games. But, in the recent past, things have changed and Australian players share a good bond with Indian cricketers. Unlike the early 2000s, there was no moment of angst on the field between the players. Even, there were moments of joy and happiness like KL Rahul laughing with Aussie skipper Aaron Finch, etc.

Zaheer Khan Asks Ravi Shastri To Motivate Players

In an interview given to Cricbuzz, Zaheer Khan said that it is a long tour and Ravi Shastri will have to do something in order to ignite a spark within the players. He added that the Head Coach should ask his players to remind Steve Smith and David Warner about the infamous Sandpaper Gate Scandal. He feels that when things are not going right then players should try something out of the box in order to get results.

“Knowing the coach Ravi Shastri, he should take a leaf out of old school cricket and maybe remind Smith and Warner about what has happened a couple of years back (sandpaper gate). At times when things aren’t going your way, you just have to find something to bring out that intensity,” said Zaheer Khan on Cricbuzz live.

The former pacer added that everything looks good if done within the boundaries. He opined that this type of activity really forces a player to bring the best out of him.

“They have to pick that fight maybe. Not in a bad way — staying in the boundaries and bringing out that intensity at times. Forget about what is going your way, what’s not, and just get in the zone, which really helps bring out the best in you. Ravi has been good at it. So, I think that’s something he should definitely ponder because it’s going to be a long tour. They should try everything and anything possible,” Khan concluded.
