‘India Failed To Replicate,’- Adam Gilchrist Sums Up The Reason Behind Team India’s Batting Collapse

Date:

India had a horrendous outing to Adelaide in 1st Test and they lost the game by a margin of 8 wickets against the hosts. The highlight of the game was the sudden collapse of Team India in the 2ndinnings. The fans across the globe scrutinized every Indian batsman for their horrific performance in the series opener. The tourists were on lead till the end of Day-2. But, what happened on a successive day was simply unbelievable. Now, Adam Gilchrist has opened up on the main reason behind the Indian team’s poor performance in the 2nd innings.

Team India picked Prithvi Shaw in the absence of Rohit Sharma alongside regular opener Mayank Agarwal. The management backed Shaw ahead of Shubhman Gill. But, their move to play the former backfired. The 21-year-old scored 4 runs in the 1st Test and got clean bowled to Pat Cummins twice in the game.

Adam Gilchrist Gives Verdict On Team India’s Collapse And Reason Behind It

And, Adam Gilchrist feels this is one of the reasons behind Team India’s collpase. He asserted that the early dismissals of Prithvi Shaw put extra pressure on the batting line-up. The former Aussie cricketer added that the failure of Chteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli was another reason behind Team India’s misery.

Gilchrist added that in the 1st innings Pujara, Kohli, and Rahane played commendably well. On one side, the former was playing with a defensive approach. Meanwhile, the Indian skipper was well focused on smashing Aussie bowlers with ease and elegance.

“Looking back at the first innings, I would think that the seemingly slow batting from Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli was, in fact, superb defensive batting. That was what India failed to replicate in the second innings. In the first innings, it had seemed that India was not looking for scoring opportunities, but Kohli’s masterclass of concentration alongside Pujara and later Ajinkya Rahane is what ensured that India reached 244.” ,” Gilchrist wrote in his column for Mid-Day.

“In both innings, Prithvi Shaw’s early dismissal put the team on the back foot. Shaw was part of the team during the last series here, and there has been plenty of hype and build-up around the youngster,” Gilchrist wrote.
