The Mumbai Police have booked former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli for reportedly hitting his wife on her head. Andrea Hewitt, the wife of Vinod Kambli, reported him in an FIR on Friday for allegedly abusing and hitting her while intoxicated in a Bandra (West) apartment.
According to the Bandra Police, Vinod Kambli has been charged with violating IPC sections 504 and 324 (willful use of dangerous weapons to cause harm) (insult). He is charged with tossing the handle of a cooking pan over his wife Andrea, causing a head injury.
Andrea reportedly stated that the matter is being settled and that there has not been an arrest in this case. Andrea received treatment at the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra after that, and she then proceeded to the police station to give a statement and submit a copy of the medical record.
“We have booked Kambli for voluntarily causing injuries with a dangerous weapon and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace under the Indian Penal Code,” said the officer.
Kambli allegedly came home drunk
Vinod Kambli is accused of coming home drunk and abusing his wife. On Friday between 1:00 and 1:30 PM, the incident took place. He apparently tried to be calmed down by his 12-year-old son, who was also there, but instead, he ran to the kitchen, grabbed a pan, and threw it at his wife.
According to TOI, Vinod Kambli’s wife claimed in her complaint that despite her attempts to calm him, he continued to attack both her and their son without cause.
“The complainant has said that Kambli threw the broken handle of a cooking pan at her, causing injuries to her head. He also tried to hit her with a bat but she managed to wrest it out of his hands, after which she immediately took both her children and left the house,” said an officer with the Bandra police station.

Years before their Catholic wedding, the couple had previously formalised their relationship with a court marriage.
In 2010, Vinod Kambli and his wife Andrea gave birth to their kid. After getting married to Andrea, Kambli’s second wife, he became a Catholic and gave his kid the name Jesus Christiano Kambli.
The former cricketer had already found himself in hot water after being detained by the Mumbai Police for smashing through the gate of his housing complex. After the incident in February of last year, Kambli allegedly got into a fight with the watchman of the residential community and some of the inhabitants.
