The Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season’s knockouts are finally over and we will now shift our focus to the highly-anticipated semi-finals. Two teams have been eliminated and it is now time for the ISL 2022-23 semi-finals.
Notably, this was the first time after a gap of 2 years that crowds were allowed inside the stadiums and this resulted in teams getting that little extra kick and punch which they need in a game of football.
Controversy-filled 1st knockout game in ISL 2022-23
The first knockout game of ISL 2022-23 between Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters FC was riddled with controversies towards the end. A controversial free-kick from Sunil Chhetri resulted in the entire team of Kerala Blasters FC stepping out of the ground after following the orders of their Head Coach Ivan Vukomanovich.
Bengaluru FC eventually won the game 1-0 and qualified to the semi-finals. They will now be facing the ISL 2022-23 League Shield Winners, Mumbai City FC, in what will be a tough and challenging assignment for them.
ATK Mohun Bagan’s clinical victory in the 2nd knockout game
ATK Mohun Bagan dominated mostly the entire game in the 2nd knockout match and defeated Odisha FC 2-0. Notably, this was the first time the Juggernauts had qualified for the ISL playoffs. The Mariners spoiled their party and qualified for the semi-finals.
ATK Mohun Bagan will be drawing swords with defending champions of the ISL, Hyderabad FC in the semi-final 2.
Both the semi-finals will be having two legs each and this will provide a golden opportunity for both the teams to stage a comeback in case they didn’t have a good first leg. The finals will however be only 1 leg.
