The Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 has finally boiled down to its final game. The all-important final clash will be taking place between ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC. 11 teams have played 20 league matches and then 6 of them played the playoffs to secure a berth in the finals.
In the 1st semi-final, Bengaluru FC pipped past Mumbai City FC to book a place in the finals. In the first leg, Sunil Chhetri scored a header to make sure the Blues have a 1-0 lead in the game. The 2nd leg went right down till the wire as Mumbai City FC dominated the game and after extra time, the score-line read 2-1.
The League Shield Winners Mumbai City FC failed to complete the double as they lost to Simon Grayson’s Bengaluru FC in the semi-finals.
Javi Hernandez had scored for Bengaluru FC and then Bipin Singh and Mehtab Singh found the net for Mumbai City FC. The match then came to the penalties and after 17 strikes, Bengaluru FC finally cruised into the finals. Unfortunately, Mehtab Singh had failed to cross Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
In the 2nd semi-final, there were no goals scored between the two teams across the two legs. The match then went to the penalties yesterday and ATK Mohun Bagan emerged out as the champions in the game. Pritam Kotal had scored the final penalty goal and then powered his side to the victory.
Both the semi-finals resulted in end-to-end games and were absolutely nervy games.
