India has bounced back bounced well from the defeat in the last One Day International against the hosts, Sri Lanka. The men in blue won the first T20I match against the island nation by 38 runs in R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Now in the second T20I, the visitors will look to seal the series, and again, they will want to give the other youngsters chances as they did in the last match of the ODI series.

Sri Lanka did well to avoid the ODI whitewash by the hands of India. The Lankans Tigers have a talented bunch of youngsters. But at the international stage, they need to know how to finish the games. They lost the second ODI by a narrow. They applied the pressure on the Indian batters in that game. But they couldn’t keep that pressure on, which is why they lost the second ODI and the series. Now the Lankans are again 0-1 down in the three-match series of the shortest format. To avoid the whitewash in the T20I series, the Sri Lankan batters will have to come well in the second T20 International, which will be played tomorrow, 27th July 2021.

India-IND

The men in blue are on the verge of winning another series in another format tomorrow against Sri Lanka. But the visitors need to sort their batting before the second T20 International starts. The batting are getting starts. But none of them are converting them with a good score. India needs the youngsters like Sanju Samson and Prithivi Shaw to grab the opportunities in the absence of the seniors. The young team under Shikhar Dhawan have a lot to play for as they have a chance because get can also cement their places in the World T20 squad, which will be played in the UAE later this year.

Suryakunar Yadav is only the man whose place looks certain for that World T20. Even Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, Manish Pandey, and KULCHA look doubtful for that ICC Mega event as of now. So the youngsters and seniors need to step up to cement their spots in that T20 team. India needs comprehensive wins under the belt to clinch the series, and their mission should be to complete a whitewash against Sri Lanka, an opportunity they missed in the one-day international series.

A lot has been said about the bowlers. The bowlers have a chance to feature in the playing XI of that WT20 event. Jasprit Bumrah is the only pacer whose place has been guaranteed into the playing eleven. So, Bhuvi, Chachar, Chahal, Kuldeep, and Chakravarthy cannot relax after this win. The bowlers need to improve their performance after every game to be in the contention of that WT20 spot.

Varun Chakravarthy, the spin bowler from the KKR camp, has been ideally looked at because he had a good show on the wickets of the United Arab Emirates in the last IPL 2020 season. But his debut in the shortest format wasn’t an ideal one. So now he hopes to get another chance in the playing XI to do well this time around.

India also has a concern about Hardik Pandya’s batting. The hard-hitting all-rounder didn’t have good ODI series. Pandya was in poor form in the IPL also, and that is why he wasn’t selected for the Test series against England.

The Indian players on this Sri Lankan tour have the last chance in these two matches to impress the captain, coach, and national selectors because India doesn’t play any more T20 International games after this series, and the players will head to the UAE for the remaining 31 matches of the IPL 2021 season. So the players are expected to perform as if this is the last match.

Sri Lanka – SL

The hosts are without their key players of the T20 and ODI format. Some can return to the squad. They are out because of injuries, and the players also left due to contract issues. They may return if the Sri Lankan Cricket Board solves this issue. But the players who were banned for breaking COVID protocols cannot return to the team, and those players are key to Sri Lanka. Their absence is undoubtedly a big blow to them. But Still, they have performed exceptionally well in the matches played so far.

Their bowlers have stood up in the matches. But now it is the time for their batsmen to step up after failing to chase a modest score of 165 runs in the first T20I. Earlier their bowlers did well to restrict a batting powerhouse like India to just 164 runs. The bowlers have scalped timely wickets of the Indian batsmen, and because of that, the visitors haven’t been scoring freely. Sri Lanka has given an improved bowling performance since then. Chameera, Shanka, Hasaranga, Karunaratne have been good.

But the home side will also expect these players to bat well in the run chase if they are asked to chase in the second T20I. These players are potential batting all-rounders, and they have an excellent hitting ability which is needed in the shortest format like this. Sri Lanka can take the confidence from the last ODI match where they chased the score in the end. Sri Lanka can pick Lakshan Sandakan, who had a good ODI series, and he was also the highest wicket-taker for them. They can drop Ashen Bandura to make Lakshan in the second T20I, and Isuru Udana picks a proper batsman Bhnuka Rajapaksha.
