April Fool’s Day is leveraged by many in the eSports community to play fun and innovative pranks. Now, the pranks are getting more well-thought and detailed, as is evident from the most recent prank by Riot Games.
Over the past ten years, Riot Games has been known to participate in the merriment, and this year, it was with VALORANT.
Riot published a list of patch notes for an “upcoming” VALORANT update as part of April Fools Day.
The list seems fairly standard, but upon closer examination, it is simply the development team parodying popular memes in the community. These patch notes are merely a practical joke and do not truly describe any additions to the game.
Valorant Fake Patch Notes
Numerous updates to current agents’ skills, some of which totally alter how the agents function, are among the strange changes mentioned in these patch notes.
For instance, Jett can dash every 0.5 seconds rather than having to wait for the ability to charge, and Gekko’s Wingman is described as having the ability to take up and use any gun. Players’ fire rates would even rise just by being close to Brimstone’s beard.
For example, here is one of the excerpts from the patch update:
“COMPETITIVE UPDATES
VALORANT e-daters in Ranked will automatically be funnelled to a dedicated queue where they can only hear one another’s voice comms
Cuffing season may be over, but if you and your situationship are tryna link over VALORANT without getting absolutely merked by your teammates, we gotchu fam.”
By announcing that the Vandal would no longer be available for purchase in-game and that Breeze would be the only map in the pool with brand-new furniture, Riot further catered to VALORANT parodies.
With these hypothetical patch notes, any flirting in Ranked would be shifted to a speech channel for just those two players. It’s obvious that Riot is more than willing to amplify memes within the community, which is a wonderful way to honour April Fools day as well.
