Liverpool win vs Newcastle United

Newcastle United failed to break their 13-game league against Liverpool despite having a lead in the game for most of the times. There was unprecedented drama at the St James’ Park on 27th August 2023 as Liverpool staged a come-from-behind victory to seal the deal versus Newcastle United in this Premier League 2023-24 game.

In the 25th minute of the game, winger Anthony Gordon had netted the first goal for Newcastle United. A fumble from defender Trent Alexander-Arnold because of a lapse of concentration pushed Gordon to score the first goal of the game.

Minutes later, the Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was sent off the field after he fouled Alexander Isak at the edge of the penalty box. Liverpool had just 10 players on the field and they had a mountain to climb.

Darwin Nunez conjured magic for Liverpool in the 2nd half

In the 2nd half, Jurgen Klopp introduced Darwin Nunez. His twin strikes in the 2nd half helped Liverpool script a dramatic comeback in this game. At a time when it seemed that Newcastle United were finally winning this game, Liverpool had some other plans.

In the 81st minute, another defensive lapse from Newcastle’s Sven Botman allowed Nunez to take a piledriver and score the equaliser.

The goal breathed hope into the team and with 9 minutes left in regulation time in the game, The Reds believed that they could stage a comeback.

And then Darwin Nunez’s brilliance during the stoppage time powered a 10-man Liverpool side to a fantastic victory. A brilliant through ball from Mohammad Salah was received well by Nunez and then he rifled it past the goalkeeper to double up Liverpool’s goal-scoring tally in this game.

The first touch was smooth and that essentially brought in a lot of control for Darwin Nunez as he stuck a dagger into the hearts of the home side at St James’ Park. Liverpool’s goal brought despair and dejection for the home fans and they were visibly disappointed.

Led by Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool were absolutely thrilled after the win. They went bonkers and had wild celebrations on the field as the victory meant a lot to them.

The Reds next lock horns with Aston Villa on 3rd September 2023. It will be taking place at Anfield.

On the other hand, Newcastle United next play against Brighton on 2nd September 2023. The match is slated to begin from 10:00 (IST) and will be played at the Falmer Stadium.
