Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have been in terrific form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. They are presently in the 2nd position in the points table and have won 5 games out of their 10 matches, and have a No-Result (NR).

Several areas have clicked for the Lucknow-based franchise and they are playing according to their strengths. The players are enjoying a rich vein of form and they are favourites to win the IPL title.

However, they have been dealt with a blow as reports suggest that their skipper and star player KL Rahul will not play anymore in this edition after he suffered a leg injury in their game versus Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Lucknow Super Giants can win their maiden IPL title in IPL 2023:

1. Kyle Mayers’ exceptional form

The Caribbean flavour in IPL 2023 was in full swing as Kyle Mayers has been firing on all cylinders at the top. Initially being drafted onto the playing XI of LSG as a replacement player of Quinton De Kock, Mayers has seized the opportunities with both hands and is the first-choice player now.

In 10 matches, the hard-hitting southpaw has amassed 311 runs at an average of 31.10. Kyle Mayers is one of the most vital cogs in the wheels of LSG and if he can continue his stellar form, he can power LSG to their maiden IPL title.

2. The bowling department has been clicking

Despite Mark Wood’s injury and his subsequent ruling out of IPL 2023, LSG haven’t bogged down in his absence. Naveen-ul-Haq has stepped up in the Englishman’s absence and has so far taken 7 wickets in 5 games.

In the spin-bowling department, Ravi Bishnoi has topped the bowling charts of LSG and has bagged 12 wickets in 10 games. Krunal Pandya and Amit Mishra have bagged 6 wickets each and their spin-bowling department looks solid and pretty reliable.

With the impact player rule coming into action, Amit Mishra has benefitted largely from it. He recently surpassed Lasith Malinga to become the 3rd highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL, with 172 wickets in 160 games.

3. Finishers have done their job

The finishers of LSG have stepped up whenever required. The likes of Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni have been exceptional with the willow and have delivered the goods with precision and accuracy.

In LSG’s imposing total of 267 versus Punjab Kings (PBKS) which was the second-highest IPL total ever, Nicholas Pooran scored 45 runs in 19 balls.

Marcus Stoinis, who came in at number 4 and bagged the player of the game award, had scored 72 runs in 40 balls and had also bagged 1 wicket.
