Glenn Maxwell always attracts the limelight in IPL auction due to the price that buyers pay to rope him in their teams. In the previous edition, Punjab Kings splashed around 10 Crores on the Aussie all-rounder. This season he was bought by RCB at a whopping fee of INR 14.75 Crores. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir has come up stating that it is really disappointing that Glenn Maxwell is yet to prove his worth in the Indian Premier League.

Glenn Maxwell’s best IPL season came in 2014 with Punjab Kings. He smashed 552 runs in 16 games at a strike rate of 187.75. He was simply on fire in that season. But things turned from good to bad since then. The Aussie all-rounder suffered a sudden dip in his form due to which he was constantly released by the franchises.

Gautam Gambhir Not Impressed With Glenn Maxwell

However, the worse of all came in 2020 in which he failed to score a single six in the whole season with his willow. This is the reason why Punjab Kings released him into the auction pool. Surprisingly, after having a string of poor seasons once again he managed to grab a million-dollar deal with RCB.

But former IPL teammate Gautam Gambhir is not impressed with Glenn Maxwell’s inability to perform in the Indian Premier League. In an interview, he said that it is quite unfortunate that Aussie all-rounder has poorly flopped on all the occasions. As per him, none of the franchises would have released him if he would have performed well.

“The most unfortunate thing is that despite getting that platform, he has not succeeded, apart from that one season in 2014 where he set the IPL on fire. Had he done that, I think none of the franchises would have released him. Look at what Andre Russell has done for KKR and the amount of time he’s spent at one franchise,” Gambhir told ESPNCricinfo.
