Ravi Shastri Urges Virat Kohli To Take A Break From Cricket

Virat Kohli is going through a lean patch in the ongoing Indian Premier League season. He has scored only 128 runs in 9 games. And, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has again come up saying that the former Indian skipper should take a break from professional cricket and start from scratch.

Virat Kohli is rated as one of the best batsmen in international cricket. He has done immensely well for India and in IPL. But, he has been struggling to score runs with consistency in IPL 2022. He has been throwing his wicket by playing some irresponsible strokes. With T20 World Cup around the corner, Ravi Shastri wants him to get fresh in order to regain his prime form again.

Ravi Shastri, the former Indian coach said that in his opinion Virat Kohli should sideline from the game for some time. He feels the player should know when to stop and take a break. As per him, it will help him to prolong his international career for the next six or seven years. He even went on to add that if it takes for him to pull out of IPL then he should do that in order to get back his batting form.

“I think a break is ideal for him because he has played non-stop cricket and he has captained the side across all formats. It will be wise of him to take a break. You know, sometimes you have to draw the balance. This year he is already into the tournament (IPL 2022), tomorrow if push comes to shove and you want to prolong your international career and make a mark there for 6-7 years, pull out of the IPL, for all you care,” Shastri said on Jatin Sapru’s YouTube channel.

Shastri feels this is the right time for Virat Kohli to tell the IPL franchise that he will play half-season as there is no international cricket around for a while. And, this will help the star player to bounce back strongly in competitive cricket.

“If that is the case, you have played for 14-15 years. Not only Virat, I’ll tell that to any other player. If you want to play and do well for India, you have to draw the line where you want to take that break and the ideal break would be off-season where India is not playing and the only time India does not play is the IPL. Sometimes, you need to do that or tell the franchise I’ll only play the half. Pay me half, as simple as that. Those tough calls need to come if you want to reach the zenith of your profession as an international player,” he added.
