2014 (Under MS Dhon India etched name in history)
India had to wait for 28 years to earn a win at Lords. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the second Indian skipper to achieve this feat on the 2014 tour. India and England drew the starting match of the five-match Test series in 2014. But the start for India at Lords wasn’t a great one. Indian batsmen struggled to cope with the green wicket at this venue and they were undone by Anderson and co.
It was a hundred to remember from India’s current Test vice-captain Ajkimkya Rahane which helped India to salvage some moment in their favour. Rahane scored 103 runs and with him Bhuvneshwar Kumar and co allowed India to reach 295 runs in their 1st innings.
England too batted well in their 1st innings. The hosts scored 319 runs because of a brilliant ton from Gray Ballance. India again responded well with the bat in hand. Murali Vijay, Chesteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar scored some vital runs which allowed India to reach 342 runs in their second innings.
Bhuvi was the one who dented the England batters in the first innings with a six-wicket haul and Ishant Sharma was the other bowler who did the same for India in England’s second innings. Ishant prepped England batsmen with short deliveries which did the trick for India. Ishant took seven wickets for India in the second innings and allowed India to bag a famous win at Lords.
