The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will convene a review meeting following two successive setbacks to Bangladesh, resulting in an ODI series loss for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian squad. The BCCI office-bearers will meet head coach Rahul Dravid, NCA chief VVS Laxman, captain Rohit Sharma, and former captain Virat Kohli when the team returns from its tour of Bangladesh.
India fell short in the first two One-Day Internationals (ODI) they played against the hosts. In the first ODI, the Men in Blue lost by one wicket, and in the second game, they lost by five runs. Indian players gave it their all to win, but they were unsuccessful.
As per media reports, the BCCI had planned to hold the review meeting after the Men in Blue were eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 semifinals, but it was postponed because some of the officials were otherwise occupied.
After India’s defeat to Bangladesh, which is currently ranked seventh in the world, the national cricket board has finally made this decision.
We didn’t expect this team to lose
“We weren’t able to meet the Indian team before going to Bangladesh as some of the office bearers were busy but we will schedule it as soon as the team is back from Bangladesh. It has been an embarrassing performance and we didn’t expect this team to lose to Bangladesh,” a top BCCI official said as quoted by The Indian Express.
Discussion on split captaincy
Hardik Pandya is most likely to take over as India’s T20I captain in preparation for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States. After opting not to renew the contracts of Chetan Sharma, Sunil Joshi, Debashish Mohanty, and Harvinder Singh, the BCCI is yet to designate a new senior selection committee.
The Indian team was completely overwhelmed in South Africa, failing to win a single ODI match in a 0-3 whitewash. They were also unable to make the finals of the Asia Cup in the UAE and were unable to overcome the obstacle of the knockout stages in yet another ICC tournament.
As they were eliminated from the T20 World Cup in Australia after a humiliating 10-wicket defeat to England, who went on to win the tournament.
