On Friday, the group stage of the FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 came to an end, and four teams advanced to the quarterfinals. The pool winners, Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, and England, will compete against the winners of the crossover matches in the last eight stage.
On January 22 and 23, eight teams—the second and third-placed teams from the group stage—will compete in four crossover matches to select the other four quarterfinalists. In the meantime, the 9-16 classification games will include the bottom-placed teams from the pools.
To increase their chances of making it to the quarterfinals, the Men in Blue will compete against New Zealand in the crossover game.
After defeating Wales, India placed second in the group stage of the 15th FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023. India will therefore play New Zealand in the second Crossover game, which will take place on January 22 in Bhubaneswar.
After an improvement in performance over the last 18 months, the hosts will be trying to defeat New Zealand this year in an effort to break their 47-year World Cup drought.
