KL Rahul As Vice-Captain Could Have Been On Hold: Deep Dasgupta

BCCI recently announced the full squad for Test, ODI, and T20I series that will tour Australia. However, one decision that surprise everyone was the exclusion of Rohit Sharma. Moreover, the selectors announced KL Rahul as the vice-captain of Team India in the absence of the Indian opener. Many felt that it was too early to give such a responsibility to Karnataka-born batsman. Now, Deep Das Gupta has also joined the bandwagon.

KL Rahul is currently plying trades for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020. He is in smashing form with the bat and played a key role in KXIP’s success in the ongoing edition. The ongoing year is turning out to be one of the best for the right-handed batsman. He has got runs in back to back series against Sri Lanka, Australia, and New Zealand before the global pandemic came into the picture. Now, he is entertaining fans in the IPL 2020.

Indian Selectors Should Have Waited For Sometime Before Taking A Call on KL Rahul

Indian Selectors Should Have Waited For Sometime Before Taking A Call on KL Rahul

The performances given by the 29-year-old might have forced BCCI selectors to hand him over the responsibility of vice-captain. But, Deep Dasgupta feels a bit different. He said that the selectors should have waited for sometime before giving such a big responsibility to KL Rahul. The Indian commentator also asserted that Rohit Sharma is having some issues with his hamstring and if he gets fit then the latter will surely be spotted donning team India’s in Australia.

“I guess it is just a matter of time. As soon as he is fit to play a game or a few games, then he will be ready. It is a hamstring issue and you don’t want to include someone who is not 100 percent fit.”

“If Rohit is fit, he has to be there. There is no doubt about it. Maybe Mayank Agarwal’s injury is not as serious and therefore his name is included. But a fit Rohit Sharma has to be included in the team. Maybe announcing the vice-captain could have been on hold. They could have waited for Rohit’s injury details for another week, and then gone ahead with it [declaring the vice-captain],” Dasgupta said in an interaction on Sports Today.
