Domestic Career: Rahul Chahar made his first-class debut for Rajasthan in the 2016/17 Ranji Trophy tournament. He made his List-A debut in the Vijay Hazare 2016/17 season as well.

Since then, the spinner has only reached newer heights. Chahar became the leading wicket-taker for his state in the 2018/19 Vijay Hazare tournament by picking 20 wickets in just 7 games. Owing to his prowess, Rahul Chahar was picked in the 2019-20 Duleep Trophy as well. He represented India Green in this tournament.

Indian Premier League: Rahul Chahar was picked up by the Rising Pune Supergiants team in 2017. Under the mentorship of MS Dhoni and Steve Smith, the bowler grew leap and bounds. He played 3 games for RPSG in the 2017 IPL season.
