The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the full schedule of the remaining IPL 2021 matches. IPL will be returning to UAE again after the success of IPL 2020. This year’s IPL was scheduled to be completely held in India but the Covid outbreak in IPL team camps led to the mid-way suspension of the world’s biggest cricket league.

IPL is one of the biggest and richest leagues in the world, and the mid-way suspension has affected its reputation. BCCI had many proposals from various Cricket Boards for hosting the remainder of IPL 2021 but UAE was again selected as the host country. UAE will be hosting IPL 3rd time after the 2014 and 2020 seasons.

There were many complications for the BCCI in finding the right window for IPL 2021. The WT20, availability of players, and other leagues and series were major concerns for IPL’s governing body. After discussion with all cricket boards, IPL is set to be held between September 2021 to 15th October 2021 window. Leagues like CPL are preponed at special request by the BCCI to the West Indies cricket board.

IPL 2021 So Far: Points Table, Top scorer, Wicket-Taker, Squads, News

This year’s IPL first match was between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. So far Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers are leading the points table while some teams like Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals were starting to pick up the pace but the mid-way suspension has spoiled momentum. Now things are different but let’s see the points table of IPL 2021 so far.

Delhi Capitals are leading the race and they are only 2 wins away from the magical number of 16 points. Let’s now shift our focus from teams to players. There were many brilliant individual performances so far in this year’s IPL. Whether AB’s supernatural knock against KKR or Shikhar Dhawan’s consistency, there were many talking points. Let’s see a statistical analysis of top performers so far in this season.

IPL will now shift from India to UAE. Conditions in UAE are different, Harshal and Shikhar are leading the top batsmen and bowlers chart but the 2nd phase can change the calculations. Last year on the same UAE track KL Rahul won the orange cap, it will be interesting how this race ends.

Team Stats, Squad, and News

1. Delhi Capitals

The Delhi team is leading the race right now, they are only 2 wins away from sealing the playoff spot. The return of Shreyas Iyer will be a huge boost for them as he missed the 1st phase due to a shoulder injury. On the other hand, they might miss the services of Chris Woakes and Sam Billings as the ECB has reportedly declined BCCI’s request. Delhi has good memories of UAE from last season, they reached finals last year, let’s see if they can go one step forward.

2. Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings have again proved why they are the greatest team of this tournament. After failing in the last tournament, daddy’s army has currently done nothing wrong. They comfortably sit at 2nd position and are 3 wins away from sealing their 13th qualification to playoffs. They missed the services of Josh Hazlewood in the first leg, it will be interesting if he returns as WT20 starts just after 2 days of IPL 2021. Still, there is no confirmed news from Chennai’s camp regarding the availability of players.

Squad– Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa, N Jagadeesan, MS Dhoni (c), Cheteshwar Pujara, Hari Nishanth, Dwayne Bravo, Bhagath Varma, Krishnappa Gowtham, Mitchell Santner, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Deepak Chahar, Harishankar Reddy, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, KM Asif, Lungi Ngidi, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Shardul Thakur, Jason Behrendorff

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore started the tournament with a bang and won the first 5 matches. They were looking as potential contenders but Covid came as an interruption. Glenn Maxwell and Harshal Patel were their stars so far in the tournament, but now the tournament shifts to UAE and there will be different conditions. Last year they reached the playoffs after a gap of 3 years, and this year, they are contenders. Let’s see if UAE can finally give them their maiden trophy.

Squad– Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli (c), AB de Villiers, Srikar Bharat, Mohammed Azharuddeen, Sachin Baby, Rajat Patidar, Daniel Christian, Glenn Maxwell, Harshal Patel, Kyle Jamieson, Pavan Deshpande, Shahbaz Ahmed, Washington Sundar, Daniel Sams, Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Suyash Prabhudessai, Yuzvendra Chahal, Finn Allen, Scott Kuggeleijn

4. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians will be the happiest team after seeing news of shifting to UAE. The defending Champions comprehensively won the last year’s IPL in UAE. In this IPL so far, they were doing decently. Their batters were not in great form, Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock were struggling but previous memories of UAE will definitely give them a huge boost. Mumbai Indians will not miss any services of key players as Kiwi players and Caribbean players have confirmed their availability.

Squad– Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Aditya Tare, Anmolpreet Singh, Chris Lynn, Saurabh Tiwary, Anukul Roy, Arjun Tendulkar, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, James Neesham, Jayant Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Marco Jansen, Yudhvir Singh, Adam Milne, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohsin Khan, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Piyush Chawla, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult

Top Scorer- Rohit Sharma, 250 runs

Top Wicket-Taker- Rahul Chahar, 11 wickets

5. Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals will be the most affected team due to the unavailability of English players. They already were missing Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer in 1st phase but now they might miss all English players. They currently sit at 5th position. Sanju Samson and Chris Morris will be their key players in absence of Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer. Let’s see if they can find the right combination for 2nd phase of IPL 2021

Squad– Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c), Jos Buttler, Manan Vohra, David Miller, Anuj Rawat, Chris Morris, Mahipal Lomror, Rahul Tewatia, Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, Akash Singh, Chetan Sakariya, Jaydev Unadkat, Kartik Tyagi, KC Cariappa, Kuldip Yadav, Mayank Markande, Mustafizur Rahman, Shreyas Gopal, Gerald Coetzee

6. Punjab Kings

The Punjab team changed their name from Kings XI Punjab to Punjab Kings but it seems the new name has not brought them new luck. They are at 6th position with a negative run rate. One biggest positive for them will be the availability of their captain KL Rahul who was supposed to miss IPL due to a kidney stone problem. Last time in UAE, the Punjab team made a remarkable comeback in the 2nd half, they will be hoping to refresh those memories.

Squad– KL Rahul (c), Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Mandeep Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Nicholas Pooran, Sarfaraz Khan, Dawid Malan, Shahrukh Khan, Deepak Hooda, Moises Henriques, Jalaj Saxena, Saurabh Kumar, Fabian Allen, Murugan Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, Harpreet Brar, Utkarsh Singh, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Porel, Darshan Nalkande, Chris Jordan, Riley Meredith, Jhye Richardson

7. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders were having a disappointing season so far in the 2021 IPL. They only managed to win 2 matches out of 7 games. Only Andre Russell’s form was positive for them. Their captain Eoin Morgan seemed to be running out of time but this break might benefit him and his team. Now players will be fresh again and they can start the tournament on a fresh note. If Eoin Morgan misses the 2nd phase, Dinesh Karthik or Shubman Gill might be leading the team. They will hope to forget bad memories of last season and qualify for playoffs after 2018

Squad– Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan (c), Dinesh Karthik, Karun Nair, Nitish Rana, Sheldon Jackson, Tim Seifert, Andre Russell, Ben Cutting, Pawan Negi, Shakib Al Hasan, Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, Harbhajan Singh, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kuldeep Yadav, Lockie Ferguson, Pat Cummins, Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep Warrier, Shivam Mavi, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakravarthy, Rinku Singh, Gurkeerat Singh Mann

8. Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Biggest surprise of 2021 IPL has been the performance of Sunrisers Hyderabad. They started as contenders of the tournament but now are at bottom of the table. They sacked their captain David Warner mid-way and things started to turn ugly in the camp but IPL suspension might work in their favor. Last year they won 3 back to back matches to qualify for playoffs and this year, the equation is hard but UAE will favor their style of play. Let’s see if they can replicate last year’s magic.

Squad– David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson (c), Manish Pandey, Priyam Garg, Shreevats Goswami, Virat Singh, Wriddhiman Saha, Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Jason Holder, Kedar Jadhav, Mohammad Nabi, Vijay Shankar, Basil Thampi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jagadeesha Suchith, Khaleel Ahmed, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem, Siddarth Kaul, Jason Roy
